Light-Emitting Diode (LED)

- A semiconductor light source

- As indicator, lamps in many devices and used for other lighting

- Early LED, emitted low-intensity red light

- Modern LED, available across the visible, ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths, with every high brightness

- Electroluminescence, is when a light-emitting diode is forward biased (switched on), electrons are able to recombine with electrone holes within the device, releasing energy in the form of photos.

- Use in applications as diverse as replacements for aviation lighting, automotive lighting such as brake lamps, turn signals, indicator and traffic signals.

- Infrared LED used in the remote control units of many commercial products including television, DVD players and other domestic appliances.
